Biography

Sarah Ryan was a sprint freestyler who swam at the 1992, 1996, and 2000 Olympics. Ryan won three Olympic medals in relays, topped by a gold medal in the 4x100 freestyle relay in 2000. Ryan attended Mount Carmel College in Adelaide and trained at the Australia Institute of Sport in Canberra. She was a prolific medal winner for Australia internationally, mainly in relays, which included three relay medals at the World Championships, with a gold in the 2001 medley relay. She also won six relay medals at the World Short-Course Championships, topped by a gold in the 1995 medley relay. At the Pan Pacific Meet, Ryan won 11 medals, with golds in the 1995 medley relay and the 2002 4x100 freestyle relay. She took home two individual silver medals at the 1999 Pan Pacs, in the 50 and 100 freestyle.
