Biography

Breaststroke swimmer Christian Poswiat participated at the 1988 Seoul Olympics (competing for East Germany) and the 1992 Barcelona Olympics (competing for Germany). His best result was the eighth place over 100 metres in 1988. In 1992, he was eliminated in the heats of both the 100 and the 200. In 1991, Poswiat won a bronze medal at the World Championships with the 4x100 medley relay squad. At Europeans, he added another relay bronze in 1987. His greatest moment came at the European Short-Course Championships in 1993 when he won the non-Olympic 50 metres breaststroke event.

Poswiat won three individual national titles. Shortly before the wall came down, he fled to West Germany in 1989. He moved to Wuppertal where he founded a swimming school.
