Pam Shriver was one the great doubles players ever, though she was best known for her success partnering Martina Navratilova to 21 Grand Slam doubles titles. Shriver also won three Grand Slam doubles titles with other partners. Zina Garrison was also a top doubles player, winning 20 titles on the ladies’ tour, and three Grand Slam mixed doubles, but this would be her only championship with Shriver. In the final, they faced the Czech pair of Jana Novotná and Helena Suková, and the match went into a long third set, the Americans prevailing, 4-6, 6-2, 10-8.
