Description

Jordan formed a National Olympic Committee in 1957 that was recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1963. It was not until 1980, however, that Jordan’s athletes competed at the Olympics, since which time they have participated at every Olympic Games. Jordan has not yet appeared at the Olympic Winter Games.

In 2016, Ahmad Abughaush won Jordan’s first medal when he won gold in the taekwondo’s featherweight division at the Rio Games. At Tokyo 2020, Jordan earned its first silver and bronze medals, when Saleh El-Sharabaty finished second in the men’s taekwondo welterweight class, and Abdel Rahman Al-Masatfa finished third in the men’s karate kumite under 67 kg class.

Jordan’s Olympians have competed in 13 sports – archery, track & field athletics, boxing, equestrian, fencing, judo, karate, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, and wrestling.
