Federico Cesarano

Federico Cesarano was a sport pioneer in Padova. Already in 1906 there existed a football club in the town named “Club Cesarano”. Four years later, a Federico Cesarano was one of the founders of the local football association. As a fencer, he competed at the 1906 Intercalated Games where he won bronze in the individual sabre event and reached the final with the foil.

At the next two Olympics, he was entered as member of the Italian team but did not start. Cesarano was a captain in World War I and was part of the Italian sabre and foil teams at the 1919 Inter-Allied Games winning gold and silver, respectively. Finally, in 1920 at Antwerpen (Antwerp) he returned actively to the Olympic stage competing in the foil and sabre individual tournaments, placing a good 10th in the latter. Cesarano was also nominated for the Italian sabre team but did not fight any bout in the tournament, which was eventually won by Italy.

The Games in Paris in 1924 were to be his last Olympics, where he competed in the team trap shooting event.
