Biography

Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Glenroy Gilbert was part of the best 4x100 m relay team in the mid-90s, alongside Robert Esmie, Bruny Surin and Donovan Bailey. Gilbert ran in college in the United States for LSU, where he finished second in the 1993 NCAA 100 metres. Gilbert was not only a sprinter, but also long jumped, competing in that event at the 1988 Olympics and 1990 Commonwealth Games.

Internationally, Gilbert won a gold medal in the 100 at the 1995 Pan American Games, but he won most of his medals in the 4x100 relay. With the Canadian team he won gold medals in the short relay at the 1996 Olympics, the 1994 Commonwealth Games, the 1998 Goodwill Games, and the 1995 and 1997 World Championships, adding a bronze at the 1993 Worlds. Gilbert also competed in bobsleigh at the 1994 Winter Olympics, where he finished 15th in two-man and 11th in four-man. After his retirement, Gilbert worked with CBC radio in Ottawa and also coached the Canadian 4x100 m relay team.

Personal Bests: 100 – 10.10 (1994); LJ – 8.12i (1989).
