The six event combined all-around used the score from the five event combined all-around, and added the side horse vault as a sixth event. A similar unusual situation existed in the six event all-around competition, as in the five-event all-around. The maximum score here was 120, with 20 given as the maximum for each of the six events. All athletes scoring between 110 and 120 were considered to have finished first. All athletes scoring between 100 and 110 were considered to have finished second. Thus, in this event, we have the very unusual situation in which nine athletes finish “tied” for first, and eight finish “tied” for second, with the others considered “non-classed” in the Official Results.
In this event, the highest scoring athlete was again France’s Pierre Payssé. Of the 37 competitors in the five-event all-around, 29 of them were eligible to compete in the side horse vault and complete the hexathlon, with eight of them not starting, and all of those were Greeks. For four of them, however, no marks are known, and it is not known if they actually started in the side horse vault.
