Little is known of the details of this event which was won by France’s Maurice Lecoq. Lecoq competed at the 1900, 1906, and 1908 Olympics, winning six medals but this was his only gold medal. Second-placed Frenchman Léon Moreaux won five medals in 1906, including two golds.
