The top six shooters broke the Olympic record of 192, led by Italy’s Ennio Mattarelli with his gold-medal mark of 198. Three shooters tied for second – Galliano Rossini (ITA), Pāvels Seničevs (URS), and Bill Morris (USA). In the shoot-off, Seničevs was clean with 25 birds. Morris made his first 11, then missed one, finishing with 24 for the bronze medal. Rossini made his first 16, but missed his 17th and 22nd birds to drop to fourth.
