Son of an Italian father and an Australian mother, Massimiliano Rosolino grew up in Italy, but lived in Australia from the age of 3 to 6, and he often returned there for long periods of training during his competitive career. An excellent middle distance freestyle swimmer, Rosolino reached his greatest heights in the 200 individual medley: he won the event at the 2000 European Championships, the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the 2001 World Championships. His medal performances span a decade, first medalling at the 1997 European Championships, while winning three medals at the 2008 World Short-Course Championships. In all, Rosolino won 60 medals in international and continental championships, with four Olympic medals, five World Championship medals, 10 World Short-Course Championships medals (1 title in 2006), 21 European Championship medals (7 titles) and 20 European Short-Course medals (7 titles). Rosolino also sports 41 gold medals from Italian Championships between 1995 and 2009, including 13 titles in the 200 m medley.
He received in 2000 the Collare d’Oro for Sporting Merit from the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI).
In private life, Rosolino was previously romantically involved with Roberta Capua, Miss Italy of 1986, and second in the 1987 Miss Universe Pageant, but currently has a daughter with dancer Natalia Titova, known for her appearances in the Italian edition of Dancing with the Stars.
Personal Bests: 200 m freestyle – 1:46.60 (2000); 400 m freestyle – 3:43.40 (2000); 200 m IM – 1:58.98 (2000).
